Mary Powell grew up in Iowa, graduated from Grinnell College in 2007, and currently teaches inner-city students at the Paraclete Center in South Boston. She recently worked for the Episcopal Rebuild Program in New Orleans, helping get low-income survivors of Hurricane Katrina back into their homes. She also interned with A Second Chance, an Ethiopian adoption agency. She has volunteered with the Maranyundo Initiative, which is opening a tuition-free boarding school in Rwanda, and with All As One, an adoption agency for war orphans of Sierra Leone. Mary believes that equal access to education is critical for sustainable development and spends her time finding ways to participate in global development efforts.

Every Child is an all-volunteer organization. There are no staff salaries, so donations go directly to helping children in Burundi and Rwanda.
